Have Movies become the new Comics...?

Years ago it was really difficult to produce a superhero movie due to the fact that the special effects were so expensive to replicate. With the advent of CGI effects and their increased popularity that has led to a glut of superhero movies (Ironman, Hulk, X-Men, Spiderman, Batman) over the last few years, is it now a case that movies have replaced comics in the creative process? Or do comics still have a place in the 21st Century?
